Review written by Kevin Parsons Country Roundup Volume 9 - Issue 4 - 25th April 2007 Once in a while you come across that special recording. One such CD is "The Real Deal" from Rob Wilson. Containing 12 original tracks, of which Rob wrote five & co-wrote the other seven. The first single from the album will be the title track "The Real Deal". Rob produced, engineered, mixed & mastered his album at his Longhorn Studios. Playing on the album he had the services of Drew McAlister, Peter Figures, Tim Dutton, Glen Hannah, Anthony Taylor, Brad Bergen, Gary Brown, Bill Chambers, Michel Rose, Mick Albeck & Gary Steel. |

Review written by British Country Music Association - BCMA Bulletin August 2004
Nine times out of ten an album without a label or number signifies a cheapo production made solely to sell on gigs. There are exceptions, of course - and this superbly professional release from Australian singer, Rob Wilson, is one of them - and don't believe the album's title, for this is a highly polished production, both in the quality of material and the performance. Most of the songs are written by Rob, but he also has the taste to utilise the efforts of people like Jim Lauderdale and Darryl Worley on occasion, making this a fine example of what modern country music should sound like and putting much of Nashville's current output to shame. Check out the website www.robwilson.biz for details on how to get your hands on a copy. |

Review written by Smoky Sheldrick - Australian Country Music Listeners' Association (ACMLA) July 2004
Rob
has a definite winner here with "Rough Around The Edges". Each
one of the twelve tracks are high rating and suit Rob's outstanding
vocals. Great selection of musicians Jeff McCormack and Simon Johnson on
bass, Paul Hannah on drums, Glen Hannah on guitars and backing vocals,
Mick Albeck on fiddle, steel-dobro Michael Rose and Felicity Urquhart,
Karen O'Shea backing vocals.
My standouts here are the whole 12 track's but here are some that have become requested by my listeners, track (4) "I'll D The Hurtin' Round Here", the title track "Rough Around The Edges", and track (12) "I Think I Like It Here". This is indeed (The) album to add to your collection it's full of great traditional country sound and songs. Through www.robwilson.biz & www.acmla.com.au |

Review written by Roland Lanzarone - Le Cri Du Coyote (France) N '81 June - July 2004
First CD of a baritone singer, well put in value by his choice of 12 songs, 7 of which he wrote. The music is very dancing & honky tonks dominate with a Nashville soung. That's the case for "Same Ol' Love" & "Rough Around The Edges". The tempo quickens in "You're In Trouble". The style becomes New Country in "I Give Up". "I'll Do The Hurtin' Round Here" is a lovely waltz with a cajun touch. Three ballads among, which includes "Some Things Aren't Meant To Be" (you take the risk of destroying yourself by wanting to understand everything), charming. A very good CD in which there's nothing to discard. In addition of which, among the backing musicians you find the famous Jeff McCormack, Mick Albeck, Michel Rose, the Hannah brothers & at the vocal harmonies Felicity & Karen O'Shea. |

Rob Wilson "Rough Around The Edges". I can assure you that Rob is not rough at all even around the edges. The New South Wales resident and former member of Shot To Pieces has been in the business for around twenty years but surprisingly this is his solo debut. Rob wrote seven of the twelve excellent songs and this, coupled with his great country voice, makes him one of the top singer/writers in country. Sample "Same Ol' Love", "I Give Up", "Tomorrow's Another Day" and "I've Never Lost Her". www.robwilson.biz. An Album of the Month |

Rob Wilson - Rough Around The Edges Australia has a thriving country scene which has spawned many fine singers. One such is Rob Wilson, a young guy with a knockout country voice and a wonderful song writing talent. With plenty of steel, fiddle and harmonica, Rob turns in sterling performances of the dance tunes Same Ol' Love and Tomorrow's Another Day and the heart ballads I Give Up and I'll Do The Hurtin' Round Here - www.robwilson.biz |

Review written by Kevin Kiepe - Editor - G'day G'day Magazine Issue 9 - April 2004
"Same Ol' Love" jumps two spots Rob Wilson's current single, "Same Ol' Love", has jumped another two spots to Number 15 in it's eighth week in Australia's country music charts. It's no surprise that the song is receiving a lot of attention. In fact, we are surprised that it hasn't climbed higher. Rob delivers a punchy album that showcased his writing and vocal ability, "Same Ol' Love" is one of six songs on the 12-track CD penned by Rob. Entitled "Rough Around The Edges", the album is a mix of traditional country styles and contemporary country, but is anything but rough around the edges. This is another CD well worth the asking price and reflects the quality of Australian productions currently around. |

Review written by Rick Jenner - Country Music Capital News November 2003, Vol. 28, No. 11
The former lead singer of SHOT TO PIECES has been working strongly around the NSW Central Coast & Hunter Valley areas of late building a strong following, and this album shows why. The first song immediately suggest this is a strong Nashville product, but believe me, it's home grown in Australia. Rob's own writing has that hooky American edge to it, and it works a treat for him. The opening track and first radio single Same Ol' Love is a corker, and there's plenty more where it came from. Although one of Rob's strengths is his songwriting, he's opened the field and picked up some excellent songs from overseas writers to supplement his own works, and the result is a very, very good package. Put it together with excellent production by ace guitarist Glen Hannah and a bunch of our finest musos, and the result is one of the surprise packages of the year. |

Review written by Rosie Adsett Toyota National Country Music Muster “Country Update” Issue 18
Many readers and especially those from the Wollongong region would know Rob from his previous incarnation with Shot To Pieces. The Barnjivers are his new home and this is their first outing. 13 original songs written by Rob in the main, full of energy, and the sort of album you’d love to pick up after a great night’s entertainment with the band.
Review written by Jon C. Farkis - Country Music Capital News September 1999, Vol. 24, No. 9
Rob was the lead singer and main songwriter for the second rollup of Shot To Pieces and here he fronts a band that rocks & reels in true '90s fashion - but it's good to hear the traditional sounds coming through too. The Barnjivers are Tim Dutton (guitars), Steve Vickers (bass) & Sil Princic (drums), who are more than capable musicians & this whole set sits together tightly, with an honest feel that deserves attention. Standout tracks include Burnin' Again, She's My Girl, Lonesome Tonight and Don't Say A Word. Rob's strength is his songwriting and here he shows a diverse range of styles but also manages to come up with a distinct enough sound to allow him to stand out above the pack.
Review written by Greg Bush - Australian Country Music Roundup Issue 7 April 1999
Rob Wilson shows he hasn't been idle since the breakup of former Golden Guitars finalists Shot To Pieces. The Wollongong-based singer-songwriter delivers some punchy material with his new band The Barnjivers. Wilson had a hand in writing every track on the album, but delivers plenty of variety. There's the carefree air of "She's My Girl", the slower, poetic "She's My World" and the catchy "Let Me Be Me", debatably the best track here. An excellent indie album.
Review written by Rosie Adsett Country /Rock band Shot to
Pieces are well known for their live performances around Australia. Since
the band was formed in 1992 they have received two golden guitar
nominations, the first for the song "Gods Country", the second
for the "Gympie Muster" both of them included on this album.
